Roof Repair in Bellingham & Northwest Washington
A roof problem does not automatically mean you need a new roof. Topside repairs leaks, storm damage, failed flashing and localized roof problems across Northwest Washington.
We look for the actual source of the problem, explain what we find and help determine whether a repair makes sense or whether the roof is telling you something bigger.

Roof problems we regularly look at
Some roof problems are obvious. Others show up as a stain, a drip or a section of roofing that simply does not look right. The first job is figuring out what actually failed.
Active Roof Leaks
Water stains, dripping ceilings and recurring leaks that need to be traced back to the actual entry point.
Flashing Problems
Chimneys, walls, valleys, skylights, vents and other transitions where roofing materials meet another surface.
Storm & Wind Damage
Missing, lifted or damaged roofing after wind, falling branches or Northwest Washington storms.
Moss Related Damage
Moss can hold moisture and interfere with roofing materials, especially on shaded roofs and tree covered properties.
Decking & Sheathing
Soft, damaged or rotted roof decking discovered beneath a problem area or during repair work.
Skylight Leaks
Water around skylights that may involve flashing, surrounding roofing, the skylight itself or interior condensation.
Not sure what is causing the problem?
You do not need to diagnose it before calling. Tell us what you are seeing and we can start from there.
The stain inside may not be below the leak
Roof leaks can be deceptive. Water may enter around a penetration or flashing detail, travel along roof sheathing or framing, and finally appear inside somewhere else.
That is why simply patching the roof directly above an interior stain can miss the real problem.
We look at the surrounding roofing system, flashing, penetrations, attic conditions and other exterior details that may be contributing to the water.
We look beyond the obvious wet spot
A roof works as part of the entire exterior. Sometimes the failed component is roofing. Sometimes it is flashing, siding, drainage or moisture coming from inside the building.
Roof Surface
Missing, damaged, loose or deteriorated roofing around the affected area.
Flashing
Roof to wall transitions, chimneys, valleys, skylights and penetrations.
Roof Penetrations
Plumbing vents, exhaust vents and other openings through the roofing system.
Attic Conditions
Moisture patterns beneath the roof can help separate an exterior leak from condensation or ventilation problems.
Gutters & Drainage
Overflowing or poorly directed roof runoff can create damage that looks like a roofing failure.
Adjacent Siding
Water can enter where roofing meets exterior walls and appear below the roof line.
Fix the failed area without assuming the whole roof is done
When the surrounding roofing is still in reasonable condition, a localized repair may be the right answer.
The important part is understanding why the area failed and whether the problem is limited to that location.
Flashing, roofing material, underlayment and the roof deck all need to be considered together before deciding on the repair.
Not every damaged roof needs replacement
The right answer depends on how localized the damage is, the overall condition of the roofing system and whether the surrounding roof still has useful service life.
A repair may make sense when:
- The problem is limited to one area.
- The surrounding roofing is still in reasonable condition.
- The leak is tied to a specific flashing or penetration problem.
- Storm damage affected only a portion of the roof.
- The roof still has useful life remaining.
Replacement may deserve a closer look when:
- Problems are appearing in several areas.
- The roofing is heavily worn or deteriorated.
- Previous repairs keep failing.
- There is widespread material damage.
- The cost of repeated repairs is starting to add up.
Repair or replacement? We can look at both.
The goal is to understand the condition of the roof and recommend a sensible next step.
Why roofs around here need repairs
Northwest Washington gives a roof plenty to deal with. Long wet periods, shaded properties, moss, wind events and mature trees all affect how roofing ages.
Why roof repair pricing varies
Two leaks that look almost identical inside can require completely different repairs outside. The roof has to be looked at before the scope can be understood.

Common questions about repairing a roof
How soon can Topside look at a roof leak?
Call us and tell us what is happening. Active water and storm damage are treated differently from a scheduled repair or inspection, and we will let you know what current availability looks like.
Can a roof leak be repaired without replacing the whole roof?
Often, yes. A localized flashing failure, damaged penetration or isolated storm damage may be repairable when the surrounding roofing is still in reasonable condition.
How do you find where a roof is leaking?
We look at the visible symptoms along with the roof surface, flashing, penetrations, nearby walls and attic conditions when applicable. Water can travel before becoming visible inside, so the stain is not always directly below the entry point.
Will the repaired area match my existing roof?
We can match materials as closely as reasonably possible, but existing roofing changes appearance as it ages and weathers. Even the same product may look slightly different next to older roofing.
Can you repair a roof another contractor installed?
Yes. The original installer does not need to be Topside for us to evaluate a roof repair.
Do you provide free roof repair estimates?
Yes. Contact Topside with the property information and what you are seeing, and we can discuss the next step.
What if my roof is leaking right now?
Call Topside at (360) 752-2220 rather than waiting on the online form. It is the same number used for regular calls and emergency roof response. We provide 24-hour emergency response when needed.
Is moss damage repairable?
It depends on how far the deterioration has progressed. Moss itself can be a maintenance issue, but roofing that has already been lifted, damaged or deteriorated may require repair or replacement in the affected area.
