Bellingham Roofing & Exterior Contractor
Roofing, siding, gutters, windows, decks and skylights for Bellingham homes and properties — backed by 35+ years of local experience and a team that understands what Northwest Washington weather does to the outside of a home.
Bellingham is not a generic roofing market
A shaded roof near Whatcom Falls can behave very differently from a newer roof in Cordata or a wind-exposed home closer to the bay. Tree cover, roof pitch, moss, old flashing, attic ventilation, gutters, skylights and how quickly the roof dries all matter.
That is why we look at the entire exterior system instead of treating every problem like a shingle problem. Water can enter at a roof penetration, move behind siding, overflow a gutter, leak around a skylight, or show up inside the house far from where it started.
Moss & shade
Shaded roof slopes and tree-covered lots stay damp longer. Moss can lift shingle edges, trap moisture and hide deterioration underneath.
Trees & drainage
Needles, leaves and debris fill gutters and valleys. Once water stops moving where it should, fascia, siding and roof edges start taking the damage.
Older housing
Older Bellingham homes often deserve extra attention around decking, chimneys, ventilation, flashing, windows and previous remodel work.

Useful when you are planning work, troubleshooting a problem, buying, selling or documenting roof condition.
Commercial Exterior Work

Not sure which service you need?
You do not have to diagnose it yourself. Tell us what you are seeing and we’ll help point the project in the right direction.
Moss is more than a cosmetic problem
Heavy moss can lift shingle edges, hold moisture against the roof and make it difficult to see the condition underneath. The right response depends on how established it is and what shape the roofing system is already in.
Some roofs need maintenance. Some need targeted repairs. Others are far enough along that replacement is the more sensible investment.
The credentials matter. What we do with them matters more.
Homeowners see plenty of contractors claiming quality workmanship. We would rather show why Topside is different.
The roof only works if the water has somewhere to go
Bellingham trees are great until needles, leaves and moss fill the gutters. Overflowing water can soak fascia, stain siding, damage roof edges and dump water where you do not want it.
When we look at a roofing or exterior problem, drainage is part of the picture. Sometimes the roof is the problem. Sometimes the gutter system is making a smaller problem much worse.
Find your part of Bellingham
A roof in Edgemoor and a roof in Cordata can face very different conditions. Older construction, hillside exposure, mature trees, shade and newer development all change what we pay attention to.
Older & historic Bellingham
These areas include many of Bellingham’s older homes, remodels and established streets. We pay extra attention to old decking, chimneys, previous roof layers, flashing, ventilation and exterior wall details.
Tree cover, shade & moss pressure
Mature trees and shaded slopes keep roofs wet longer and put more debris into valleys and gutters. Moss, drainage and roof ventilation deserve close attention.
Newer development & mixed housing
Newer construction still has its own roofing questions: ventilation, roof geometry, storm exposure, gutters and how well all the exterior details were integrated when the house was built.
North, west & university areas
These areas include a mix of home ages, lot types and roof styles. Inspection matters more than assumptions — especially when additions and previous remodels have changed the original roof system.

Bellingham roofing & exterior questions
How do I know whether my roof needs repair or replacement?
Isolated problems can often be repaired. Repeated leaks, widespread shingle deterioration, soft decking, heavy moss damage or multiple problem areas may make replacement the better long-term option. The condition of the actual roof matters more than age alone.
Does moss mean I need a new roof?
No. Light moss can be a maintenance issue. Heavy, established moss may have already affected shingle edges or hidden damage underneath, which is why the roof should be evaluated before deciding what to do.
Can Topside help with an active roof leak?
Yes. Call (360) 752-2220. Move belongings away from the leak, safely contain water inside the home and avoid climbing onto a wet roof yourself.
Does Topside only do roofing?
No. Topside also works on siding, gutters, windows, decks, skylights, roof maintenance, inspections and other exterior projects.
What is the advantage of a GAF Master Elite contractor?
